The 12th edition of the Biennale de l'Image Possible (Biennale of the Possible Image), BIP2020, takes place in Liège from 19th of September to the 25th of October.
This year BIP leaves the museum walls and invests itself in atypical locations. The occupation of these places awaiting reassignment, allows for the rewriting of art and visual creation in the urban movement, its dynamism and its architecture.

A window open to all forms of images, classical or digital, BIP is a manifestation that explores the possible through photography and visual arts. BIP is an event of international, local, activist and participative scale. BIP brings together Belgian and international artists, it includes all generations.

BIP, Biennale de l’Image Possible, questions both society and changes in the visual. BIP presents in combination photography, videos and visual art installations. Through its artistic selection, the Biennale de l’Image Possible questions contemporary images and the relation we have with them.

The 12th edition of the Biennale de l’Image Possible asks the following question: what is the impact of art on reality ? What tangible effects does art have on us (on our way of considering our place, our actions, our emotions and feelings, and those of others) ; on places and times we live in (concrete or imaginary places we live in, memory, the present…); on society and its institutions and its information machines ?

BIP2020 doesn’t give one answer but transforms into an echo chamber, leaving the door open to confrontations and the disparity of opinions, testimonies, and proposals.

To address this field of possible answers, BIP2020 wished to open its programme to other curators and cultural operators. BIP2020’s central programme will therefore largely be based on three projects selected following the open call launched in December 2019. The selected proposals bring forth a number of artists from all horizons and origins, widening the initial question, whilst promising beautiful and surprising discoveries.

The main exhibitions of BIP2020 are shown in two atypical, alternative locations in the heart of the city. The Biennale de l’Image Possible will occupy, on the one hand, the former Décathlon store, located in Féronstrée in the hyper-centre of Liège and, on the other hand, former communal workshops which, after BIP2020, will be entirely renovated to accommodate a business centre dedicated to the transitions and supported by the social cooperative Novacitis.

The official parcours of BIP2020 is completed by other exhibitions proposed by several art centres in Liège. As usual, BIP is also the occasion for a multitude of spaces in Liège and the Euroregion to propose exhibitions in the bipOFF festival. Finally, an important programme of events, guided tours and workshops will accompany the Biennale.

At the invitation of Fabrice Murgia, BIP2020 also proposes an exhibition of the Liège photographer David Widart at the Wallonie-Bruxelles National Theatre (for the opening of the theatre season).
