"My work began in August 2004, just a few days after my mother’s death, when I had nothing in my mind except her. Her photographs and the idea of the possibility to be part of them were the only things that could calm my pain. I had developed the desire to get into her photographs because, not having her anymore in reality, I saw that in those scraps of paper, she was there and she was fine, smiling. I wanted to stay close to her, to live all the too long time lost staying without her, or to warn her about what was going to happen, or even just to stay with her forever.

So I chose to work on pictures of my mom in which I was not present. I studied the lights and shadows of the original pictures, the position in which I would insert myself without erasing anyone, looking at her and staying close to her. I then identified the periods and seasons and chose the dress and hair style suitable to enter the time of the photograph. In this way I look right there beside her, and the observer may become aware of my presence just by looking at more than one photo of the series. My face is always turned towards her with the glance of someone who already knows what will happen in the future. I have always the same age, while my mom is sometimes younger and sometimes older. The title is composed of two dates, 20.12.53 to 10.08.04, the dates of my mother's birth and death, but also the period when these photos were taken."
