This exhibition of portraits grew out of a journalistic investigation carried out in January 2024 for the independent magazine Imagine.
Thirty years after the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the authors travelled the country from Kigali to Butare. They met victims on the hills of Nyaruguru, perpetrators of the genocide at Muhanga prison, experts in restorative justice, therapists… A long-running investigation seeking to understand this lengthy process of unity and reconciliation.
The exhibition brings together a series of photographs bearing witness to an unfinished and fragile reconstruction, at the level of men and women permanently marked by this violent past.
It tells the story of this “small country”, at once vast and welcoming, which is building a new “living together” beyond its divisions and antagonisms.
Images and faces that immerse us in the collective destiny of a people in resilience.
