Featured Artist: Pol Piérart

Pol Piérart explores the ambiguities of language by blending text and image with a singular freedom of tone. He questions perception and doubt: the reflection is never neutral, but oscillates between illusion and interpretation, inviting us to question what we believe we see and know.

A Liège-born artist, born in 1955 and trained in monumental painting, Pol Piérart transforms words into visual works where poetry, humor, and the twisting of meaning reveal the fault lines of language. Active on the art scene since 1979, he has developed a demanding body of work that rejects certainties. His participation in the 2011 Venice Biennale reinforced this reflection on perception and doubt. With Miroir|Mirage, presented at LRS52 gallery, he continues this exploration with a subtlety tinged with self-mockery.

For him, the mirror is never a simple reflection: it becomes a surface of doubt. What it sends back is already a matter of interpretation. What if the mirror were lying? Or if our need for certainty led us to mistake its image for truth? In this interplay between reflection and mirage, the greater the assurance grows, the less the gaze questions. The image appears smooth, its flaws becoming invisible.

Conversely, accepting uncertainty enriches our relationship to the image. The reflection is never exact: it always contains a gap, a trace of fiction. It is in this interstice that the work operates, instilling a fertile unease. Miroir|Mirage thus becomes a revealer, inviting us to recognize that reality always escapes us, in part.
