PRISMES brings together the work of visual artists who offer unique perspectives on the body, exploring it through its erasure or absence, or through its metamorphosis or hybridization. In a world inundated with images, the question of the body’s representation is constantly being challenged, oscillating between rejection and acceptance, deconstruction and reappropriation. Through their practices, these artists reveal the body as a space of transition and projection. It allows us to navigate between the intimate and the political, memory and transformation, and identity and otherness.

In keeping with the theme “Mirror/Mirror” of the 2026 Biennale de l’Image Possible, the exhibition PRISMES brings together at La Châtaigneraie the work of six visual artists: Priscilla Becari, Sophie Langohr, Gabrielle Lerch, Ethel Lilienfeld, Emilie Magnan, and Sarah Pietra A. Minutillo. They offer a collection of unique perspectives on the body, viewed not as a single reflection but rather as a surface of diffraction. The body is sometimes addressed through its erasure or absence, and at other times through its metamorphosis or hybridization. Through the prism of the external gaze, their statements break down and multiply perspectives, only to come together more fully. A multiplicity of discourses converges around a unifying theme.

Through narratives, projections, questioning of norms, and political engagement, the body is dissected in all its facets and across all mediums. In a world inundated with images, the question of the body’s representation is constantly called into question, oscillating between rejection and acceptance, between deconstruction and reappropriation.

Through their work, these six visual artists present the body as a space of transition and projection, a place where the questions raised by the Biennale converge. It allows us to navigate between the personal and the political, memory and transformation, and identity and otherness. While the mirror places us face to face with our alter ego, the prism forces us to navigate through multiple perspectives. This exhibition does not attempt to establish a fixed representation of bodies but rather to reveal their various facets, to embrace their multiple states, and to contemplate their transformations.
