This exhibition of portraits was born from a journalistic investigation conducted in January 2024 for the independent magazine Imagine.

Thirty years after the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, the authors travelled across the country from Kigali to Butare. They met with victims on the hills of Nyaruguru, perpetrators of the genocide at Muhanga prison, experts in restorative justice, and therapists… A long-term investigation seeking to understand this lengthy process of unity and reconciliation.

The exhibition brings together around twenty photographs by Patricia Alen, accompanied by texts by Hugues Dorzée, which bear witness to an unfinished and fragile reconstruction, seen through the eyes of men and women permanently marked by this violent past.

It tells the story of this “small country,” immense and welcoming, which is building a new way of “living together” beyond its divisions and antagonisms.

Images and faces that immerse us in the collective fate of a people in resilience.
