Notably known for his portraits of artists, collected in the book Visages de l’écrit edited by La Renaissance du Livre and published in many publications, Pierre Houcmant taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège.
The photographer spontaneously rallied to what is known as creative photography, which took off in the early 1980s. It was a departure from reportage, from documenting, and advocated studio photography as an act of creation, invention and imagination.
From reportage to pure graphic research, the two exhibitions invite you to immerse yourself in the dense and scattered work of the Liège-based photographer.
The Galerie Central has selected works from his early years and has brought together a series of photographs on the theme of tattooing, in which the photographer’s interest in portraits is already very pronounced.
