Pierre Houcmant

At the age of nineteen, Pierre Houcmant enrolled at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts Saint-Luc in Liège, where he studied with photographer Hubert Grooteclaes until 1974.

At that time, Houcmant explored deprived social groups and started to work as a reportage photographer. Afterwards, he develops a whole research project on the body, the forms, the nude, but also the decomposition of the face as shown in his series Interversions. The notion of re/duplication is omnipresent in his work.

Pierre Houcmant was also a professor at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Liège.

Born in 1953 in Pepinster, Pierre Houcmant died on 18 August 2019 in Oupeye.
