ME, MYSELF AND I

In Me, Myself and I artists are reflecting on the impact, place and status of today’s media-drenched society.

As we spend more than 60 percent of our awake time connected to a screen our personal devices are our most “intimate possession”. Rarely has our own personality, ego and personal life been so central in society. This ties in perfectly with a (post-)modern, (post-)capitalistic society, in which the consumer is the main subject and focus… keen to align himself around products and experiences that define his identity and supply him with a “digital” appearance. Although there were many efforts of emancipation after 1969, in an attempt to overthrow the capitalist and religious values with their concepts of sexuality, identity or gender, these rigid values are back on the table fifty years later… no longer (solely) determined by society, state or religion but by the values that are set out in the terms and conditions of Instagram, Facebook or Google. In this exhibition Arvida Byström (SW), Tabita Rezaire (FR), Molly Soda (US), Emilie Brout & Maxime Marion (FR) and Olga Fedorova (RU) will be reflecting on this tsunami of daily images on their personality and work.
